I'm done with reading So Far From the Bamboo Grove and I think it was a really good book. Not only did it give me the idea of what the Japanese went through , it also gave me the chance to understand them. Before reading this book, honestly I diddnt really think that I would enjoy this book because its in the perspective of a Japanese, but now I think about it, i dont regret reading this book. This story has alot of settings.The main two setting takes place in Korea and Japan however if you narrow it now, there are more then just two places. Because the family is on a journey, they move to places to places really fast. They go to Nanam to Seoul then Busan then to Japan.
The main topic of this book , is that you notice the loveliness of somehting after you go through a hard situtaion.

heyyy jamiee~! ;D
your book is similar to mine i think..haha but "So Far From the Bamboo Grove" is in a Japanese perspection and "When My Name was Keoko" is in a Korean's perspection. I really want to read your book now because I'm so curious in what the Japanese have to say about the whole situation. Is the story about how the Koreans were mad at them and wanted to punish them because of all their suffering? I dont think I will be too happy about what they say about Koreans but i want to hear it. In my book there isnt that many settings. It's mainly Korea and Japan (a little). In the end the war ends and tae-yul, sun-hee's brother, isnt dead after all and comes back home! they went through a lot of hardships but in the end they had a happily ever after~! =D
anyways great job on the post! hope you had fun reading your book because i might read it also~ ;]
luv ya! <3
haha good blog on what WE are reading
i think Japan's perspective is really different from ours too
im really upset of what all happened but this book has a point of view of japanese getting attack from korean communist
but were not actually this group that attaked japan and killed them we werent communist and i think that has a really big meaning in it
i hope japanese dont get confused with us.

since reading a lot of other peoples blogs i really want to read this book now. It seems like the topic of how you can see something good in a bad situation is a good lesson and i think that the setting and how they seem to move alot probably affects their lives strongly.
Good blog~ And actually quite a few people at first wasn't so thrilled to read a book on the Japanese perspective. I wonder if they like it now! My book is on a Korean perspective, who is opposing the Japanese. Like Christina, I want to read your book because I think it would be interesting to read a book from the Korean perspective and then a book from the Japanese perspective. Anyway, good job :}
